Role Overview
The Production Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and continuously improving feasible production plans and schedules that balance customer demand, capacity, material availability, and inventory targets. This role partners closely with Production, Procurement, Customer Service, and Engineering to ensure on-time delivery, stable execution, and clear visibility of weekly targets and constraints.
Work Environment: Hybrid (minimum 3 days in the office)
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Build and maintain finite/feasible production schedules aligned to demand, capacity, and material constraints; update schedules based on changing priorities, lead times, and shop-floor realities.
- Publish and maintain a short-interval production plan/targets view (e.g., a rolling “week-ahead” plan) and ensure weekly targets are clearly communicated to production teams.
- Facilitate and/or run the weekly Master Production Schedule (MPS) cadence (agenda, inputs, actions, decisions), capturing actions and ensuring follow-through.
- Review planning queues and system confirmations; correct the schedule where lead times or system signals are inaccurate and ensure plans remain executable.
- Maintain planning discipline by ensuring orders are planned promptly (e.g., within defined SLA windows) and drive visibility/closure of unplanned backlog.
Material & Inventory Coordination
- Partner with Procurement/Buyers to align material release, shortages, and expedites with the production plan; communicate constraint-driven impacts to stakeholders.
- Monitor and report inventory health across RAW / WIP / FG, including periodic snapshots aligned to business cadence (e.g., M-2 / M-1 / month close).
- Support actions to reduce Excess & Obsolete (E&O) inventory through routine review, prioritization, and cross-functional disposition plans.
Stakeholder Management & Customer Commitment
- Serve as a key planning interface between Production and Customer Service to protect customer delivery commitments; escalate risks early with clear options and tradeoffs.
- Collaborate with Operations leadership to support attainment of KPIs such as OTD/OTIF, schedule adherence, attainment vs plan, backlog, and inventory turns.
Data Integrity, Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain planning parameters and master data inputs (where applicable) to improve MRP/MPS reliability and schedule stability.
- Identify recurring planning issues (constraints, bottlenecks, poor signals, master data gaps) and lead/participate in continuous improvement activities.
- Contribute to standard work documentation for planning routines (MPS meeting rhythm, scheduling rules, escalation paths).
Critical Competencies for Success
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2–3 years of experience in production planning/scheduling, supply planning, or manufacturing operations planning.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and planning concepts (MPS/MRP, lead times, capacity, backlog management).
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., JDE/SAP) strongly preferred.
- APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM/CSCP) preferred.
